IT Engineering Process

IT cost, complexity and importance keep growing. Therefore, it's critical that organizations follow an IT engineering process to insure that:
  • business requirements are understood and prioritized
  • solutions are designed to meet those requirements
  • plans and budgets are developed to provide a roadmap for the development
  • the process is transparent, understandable and predictable

We've been using the following IT engineering process for decades.

Dilemma

Most small businesses don't have a CIO or CTO that specializes in IT strategy, architecture and planning because they can't justify a full time position. Therefore, these vital functions don't get the attention they deserve and short term problems dominate. As a consequence, most small businesses aren't getting the IT they need.
Solution

The solution is to outsource the CIO/CTO function to us. We will perform high level IT functions by working closely with your management team and IT staff.
Cycles

We will follow the IT engineering process once a year and update the plan every quarter. Your staff will continue to do the bulk of your IT work, including integrating new technology and supporting the users. We can do some of the development work and serve as tier 2 support if you like.
Deliverables

You will receive the following deliverables:
  • IT requirements document (describes general, user and management requirements)
  • IT solution document (describes the vision and architecture)
  • IT planning document that covers a 1-2 year period (graphically shows who's going to do what by when and what it will cost)
The deliverables are written for non-techies.
Cost

The cost of this service depends on the scope and complexity of your IT. You will receive value that far exceeds the cost because your IT expenditures will be spent in the best possible way.

The cost for the first year will be higher than subsequent years because we will be creating the requirements, solution, planning and budget framework for your organization utilizing templates we've developed. In subsequent years, we'll have a good base to work from and the process will go faster.
